Not sure if I misunderstood, but I thought you said the room lights weren't working either?

They were not, but they are all on the same circuit, as there is one for upstairs sockets and one for upstairs lights. I reset the breaker on the RCD and they are now all working.
 
Ah, your original post said only one room was affected and the rest of the house was OK.

It was just one room, but I reset the RCD once finished then checked all the lights and sockets upstairs, to make sure there were no issues. All sorted with help and advice from the people on here.
