Hi I'm looking for any information possible about what areas I should be looking at in the electrical business if I want to progress and make more money e.g specialising in certain fields.

Im ambitious and eager to earn the most money I possibly can but my searches seem to only return vague descriptions of what to look in to so thought I'd see if there is anyone who themselves has progressed from carrying out normal day to day repairs and installations in to other fields within the electrical industry.

Im time served and have 2 years under my belt so far, I've completed a HNC in electrical engineering as well as my 2395 and a few other minor courses such a BPEC for solar PV etc. and I'm going on to do my degree sometime this year, I'm still young at only 22 and still as clueless as I was when they asked me what k wanted to be when I was 16  but I want to make the best of where I am now.

Basically looking for any advice and pointers on any areas I should consider looking in to and the qualifications required for these!

appreciate any feed back anyone can offer!

Joe

You need to look around and see what is in demand with no supply. This used to be renewables -wind turbines large solar ect, But I think that boat has sailed. It really depends on what you fancy doing for the next 40 years. It would seem we have a shortage of people who can handle controls and programming in an industrial environment. There is no short course for these things and the guys who are experts are a dying breed. Every year we loose more to retirement ect and the money is there even now for the contractor who can handle it all.
Other than that you may want to go teach in the UAE or something like that. But at the end of the day it's all about what you fancy as after you finish the uni ect then you are looking at a long 40 years if you go into something you hate just because of the cash.

going into electronics e.g. plc's, fpga's etc is a very good move if you want to be more industrial

a lot of people don't have a clue how to do this kind of thing and even more people cant program to save there lives because they can't get there head around it
