Hi.

I'm having an issue with an old style storage heater. A workman disconnected the storage heater to lay new flooring under it . For some reason the installer removed the wiring completely, rather than keep it wired in . He then re wired as originally done. . Since then the heater seems to charge constantly. It's wired into a grasslin timer, so should only turn on when selected on the timer .

I tried sliding the timer setting to 'off' mode, and also tried a specified time, but it just runs constantly.

The only way I can get it to stop heating up is turning it off at the fuse board.

Any advice would be great.

I may add that he removed the wiring from the wall, not the unit.

Perhaps the timer is now faulty, or got damaged at some point, or perhaps it was reconnected incorrectly? Should be fairly simple for an electrician to diagnose & replace or correct as needed. I presume your "workman" is not actually an electrician.

Seems like he’s connected to a 24 hour supply instead of the off peak one controlled by the timer.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately it was a carpenter who did it, still can't understand why. luckily he took a photo of the wiring before he touched it, and even though he assured me it was wired back in the same, it wasn't 🤣🤔.

the first shows how it was originally wired, the 2nd shows how the chippy did it . Spot the difference 😅

would this mistake have caused the storage heater to permanently charge? Its on a single 24hr hour supply using a grasslin timer.

Hope i'v diagnosed the issue without the need for an electrician. Thanks again for the feedback.

That’s the problem. Counting terminals from right, there should be a brown in 2, but he’s put it in 3…. The brown being the outgoing supply. Leave the brown link between 1 and 3

Amazed that he took a photo beforehand and still got it wrong.

Needless to say, isolate the circuit before fixing it.
