Discuss Smoke Alarm on RCBO? in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi Mikeymoo,

Yes it can but I would suggest that the smoke alarm(s) are battery back up to ensure that they still operate in case of the RCBO tripping out and this type would normally comply with the requirements of the building regs. However you could contact building control to double check if you are not sure. When I did my NAPIT assesment, the inspector was keen that the smokes were put on an RCBO because the depth of cable couldn't be guaranteed as deeper than 50mm etc so RCD protection was required.

You could phone the smoke alarm manufacturer for advice, most are very helpful.

Hope this is of help,

Best wishes,

Rex

separate circuit or combined with lights depending on rules

rcbo unlikely to cause a nuisance for domestic smoke alarms-but i wouldn't fit unless necessary

now don't get me started on this rcd sub-main nonsense:D
