i've got the bosch one, but use it just for cables and metal. suppose it can find the nails, same way as nails find cables when we let wood butchers out of their kennels,

Thanks, I'm looking for one that I can use for a job where I can't lift the floor above to fit down lights in a kitchen. The bathroom above the kitchen is newly tiled.

I own a Bosch dmf. I think it might handle wood ok, but absolutely useless for power and pipe detecting.

I also own a generic Rapitest wire and pipe detector which works better for power/metal. There is a joist and stud detector version which you might want to try.

Looking for something that does the job better in a few months if anyone knows of anything?

tried using my bosch one to find joists in plasterboard ceiling with no access from above. no luck :(
sorted by drilling couple of small holes around marked locations, in case there is joist above they can be filled up.
got some proper magnets from old disk drive may try that way too.

I use the neon screw driver that came with my wera set. Pole a few holes up till you find some joists. Easily repaired and gives a use to a useless object.
