Hi,
My alarm system is a Texecom control unit (Premier 64-w) + Keypad + Sounder, and is using the wired zones 1-4 only, with no additional add-on's yet.
I have 2 faults being reported by this alarm system that is preventing testing & arming the system:
1) EXP 1,1 Tamper
2) Zones 1, 2, 3, 4 Tamper (fault scrolling messages)

For 1), there is no Expander fitted but I cannot find a way of either linking out the connector or stopping this error message via the set-up procedure.
I have changed the text of this message for the Expander and this changed message is displayed in the scrolling list that displays all the fault messages, hence I am assuming that the "EXP" message is referring to the 6-pin expander connector (Item 9 on their PCB layout drawing). The Sounder Tamper wire is physically grounded in the Control Unit & cannot be the problem.

2) For the Zones 1-4, these are each 2-wire connectors and all 4 are used (all tested & operate as expected). Linking them out does not change anything. There are no tamper wire connections (inputs) for these 4 ports but the system is behaving as though there are.
There is a Tamper setting under "Zones" but nothing has been selected here (i.e. there is no OFF setting).

Any help/ advice would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Question 1 - is the panel still in commissioning mode? There's a jumper, possibly number 7.

Question 2 - As this is a grade 3 system it monitors the zone wiring using resistance values. So you either need to use devices that have jumpers / links or add resistors. The basic idea is that there is a tamper resistor in series with the zone wiring, and the panel checks for this value and expects it all the time. If it deviates it assumes the wiring is cut or shorted.
Then the alarm resistor is in parallel with the contacts of the device, and the device shorts this out if it isn't active. This way the panel can detect fault and alarm conditions with only two wires.

On Texecom systems, if the default settings aren't changed, the tamper is 2k2 ohms and the alarm is 4k7 ohms

You'd wire an older PIR like this:

It is possible to re-program the zones so they use the older double pole wiring but I wouldn't suggest it is a good idea.

Hi,
Thankyou for your reply.
Yes the "Commissioning" mode had been left on, but I didn't expect it to report a Tamper error on an unused expander unit. Removing this link has removed the Tamper error.
Re the Zones & wiring, the 4 zones are 2 wire only on this unit (64-W). I have now changed the wiring type to "Normally Closed" for each zone and all is well.
I can now proceed to checking out the alarm set/ unset actions etc, plus moving the Keypad & Sounder to their final positions.
Many thanks for taking the trouble to reply to this problem, much appreciated
