You have been told by the University’s HR Division which you support that they feel that they do not need a Recruitment Adviser to support them, and regard you as a costly overhead. You have been invited to discuss this further at the management team meeting. How would you persuade them of your benefits of your role?

You would want to remind them that a University needs a recruitment adviser to place students into work and work experience placements and that without a good interface between the University and potential recruiters for the students leaving there the University can affect its reputation with Industry and employers to quite an extent...
Universities generally build their reputation with large spreads of industry by providing Students with training and providing large companies with those students by way of communicating potential interest between the company seeking for example an accountant graduate or a newly trained product design Engineer and the Student new to the recruitment market, where the Student may otherwise miss the opportunity to gain employment with an ideal company and the company may well miss the opportunity of obtaining a well trained candidate eager to learn and also to bring new ideas that can translate into improved business opportunities...
A university builds its reputation by interfacing with Industry and supplying expertise in for example medicine or Architecture and cements this relationship by providing an annual availability of Students and newly trained individuals for those industrial and commercial partners to select employees from, in return those companies will look favorably at the Universities efforts in research and commercial innovation and will be more likely to advance sponsorship and other funding as well as to buy the services of the University in terms of funded research and product development etc, this will in turn lead to further opportunities for the University as a whole and can bring about other benefits such as design awards, patents, intellectual property and the advancement of individual staff and Students whereby they begin to be regarded in terms of their value as individuals with Intangible Assets..
Once the University has a good reputation with employers and Students and is seen to be successful in the process of placing Students into employment and satisfying the needs of commercial and governmental recruiters, more individuals will express an interest in studying there and further employers and company recruiters will express an interest in employing those studying there..
A university needs a recruitment adviser in order to best facilitate the further and continued relationship with industry as well as the overall reputation of the University as a whole, whereby the student and graduate population as well as business partners of the University and other beneficiaries can continue to have their placement needs satisfied and gain from the overall day to day operations of the University...this will also help maintain staff and teaching retention rates...
There are a number of successful Universities worldwide and indeed inside the United states that focus their operational model on a reputation built on good relationships between the institution in question and industry, this vastly improves on future potential as well as current education and innovation and partnerships with other Universities, without a good interface between Students and the University in order to address the needs and enquiring speculation of potential employers and future Students the quality of the teaching environment and the commercial opportunities that arise from that relationship can quickly diminish.
Having a good recruitment management facility in operation helps maintain the satisfactory daily operations of the University as a whole and also provides great satisfaction and incentive for teaching and research staff to join and indeed remain with the University, again improving the University experience and image.
