I have a 10kw heat pump for my above ground swimming pool. I was wondering if possible what sort of turbine I would need to run it so as to keep costs down?
This is a general wonderment at the moment

Is that a 10kW heat output (in which case power requirement presumably 3 to 4kW), or is that the electrical demand of the unit?

I've seen a figure of £5k for a 5kW professional install, but that may be way out of date!! Also figures of four times that!!

Of course there are all sorts of considerations regarding placement of turbines in order to reap adequate energy - I guess you may have looked into that aspect.

Around 10-15 years ago, there was a outbreak of small new egg producing chicken farms around my area, subsidised by some EU grant. As part of the conditions, they all had to install a small wind turbine, like the above.
Now, most of the farms are still going, but the majority of the turbines are broken and/or unused. They never produced enough electricity to be worthwhile.

As above, don't forget maintenance costs!
My quick guesstimate, probably inaccurate, suggests you could buy a good 5 years worth of electricity to run the heat pump before you reach the installation costs of a turbine, and possibly even longer depending when you want it warm. And with the turbine there's uncertainty about getting power when you need it. Even with a pool cover, I don't think the pool would be a good thermal store - but my only experience is based on our old above ground pool with a heat pump (mains driven - didn't seem to cost much to run back then!)
