On the instructions saying
Red to battery +12 v
White to ignition switch +12 v
Yellow to light switch +12 v
If these three wires connect them to the ignition switch +12 v will not work?

Strange that it requires 12 volts permanent live and 12 volts ignition live. Suggests that this gauge is more complicated internally than it needs to be.
Gauges of this kind are usually move the needle with a small bimetallic strip with a small heater winding wound around it.
That would only use the white wire for power and the green wire to the sensor, with the yellow and black for the internal illumination.

You will have to install the sensor and connect the green wire. This gauge is also for Negative earth vehicle so also check your negative battery terminal does in fact connect to the chassis / engine.

Suggest test it off the vehicle with the correct sensor.

As a minimum you will need 12V+ve on white wire, and 12V -ve on the sensor body and green wire connects to sensor terminal.

After that you can add in the black wire to 12V-ve, 12+ve to red wire and finally 12+ve yellow wire for illuminating the gauge
