Light switch with wall mounted remote

Hi guys

This may sound a strange request but the light switch in the garage in our new house is in a stupid position, hidden behind racking and nowhere near the door, so we really struggle to reach to it.

At some stage we will move it but we've got loads of other work to do in the house so I'm looking for a short term quick and easy solution for now.

My idea is to swap it for a remote controlled switch, and install a remote control in a more accessible place. But I'd prefer a wall mounted remote rather than a hand held so we don't lose it in the garage! It needs to work with a traditional fluorescent strip light so obviously doesn't need to dim.

We've got several Varilight remote dimmers in the house which are great but they only come with hand held remotes. I really need a wall switch based remote. Infra red or wifi would be fine.

So I'm effectively looking for a wall switch to operate a wall switch!

Told you it was a strange request! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks Telectrix. Is there no way to avoid having to wire the receiver into the light fitting? Not sure I'm confident doing that. That's why I was hoping I could swap the existing switch for a remote switch, so it effectively becomes the receiver, and then use a wall mounted switch of some sort to control the remote switch.

would all depend if you have a neutral at the existing switch. you can get remotes where the hand unit has a wall mount so can be placed on wall where convenient.

LightwaveRF had remotes that looked like switches. Doesn’t need a neutral to operate the receiver, but not sure if that works through a fluorescent.

Might be better wiring the receiver into the switchwire at the fitting.... then you don’t have to move all the racking to change the switch.

If it is a standard fluorescent batten, a quinetic receiver should fit inside.
