Hi

I wonder if anyone could shed some light on the cause of my SMEG DO4 SS-5 not heating up. The fan, internal light and clock are all on but just no heat.

I have read that it maybe the , Thermostat, Cut- Out switch or heating element.

I have the double oven and it is the large clock operated oven which is at fault.

If someone can assist that would be appreciated.

Thanks

To be fair, although it was nothing short of a guess, he is probably right, i have done shed loads of these, ive probably changed 30+ elements. and if the oven is working, the display and lights are on but no heat then 9/10 its the element.

However it is a extrememly simple test to confirm this is the case, so i would advise giving a engineer or smeg a call to confirm.

Thanks for your replies.

I have phoned SMEG and they gave what I consider to be a high quote to fix the problem. I phoned a Domestic Appliance chap and he thought it would be the element but could not source it.

I sourced one but the company says that the wattage of the part they would be providing would be 2700watts. The chap I phoned prior to finding this info thought it would be more in the region of 2200watts. I take on board everything that has been said so far and wondered if you had a further opinion/knowledge on the wattage. It maybe that the company have identified the wrong part.

The wife is now thinking New Cooker-- i AM NOT!!!

Probably good enough as the rated element @2700Watts will be to get the oven to max temp (usually around 250degC) and that's hardly ever needed. The oven will be thermostatically contolled and not just a simple rheostat!
