do the 2d high frequency work well with pir?
I know the old magnetic ballast type didn't

is the lamp affected badly by the switching and short on time?
thanks

Most new build flats (that ive worked in) latley have 28W 2d's throughout and flush PIR's on all landings,, so thinking they must have sorted somthing out.. and they normally have standard ballast type or high frequency emergancy ones.. all in the same areas off the same PIR's

The life of an fluorescent type lamp is relative to the number of times it's switched on and off. I'm not sure if some more so than others. As far as i know a good quality electronic ballast should minimise the effects, I'm not sure about high frequency ballasts though.

I have used the surface mounted BEG brand without a problem, but also would suggest you look at Danlers, and perhaps phone ther technical dept. You didn,t mention how many lights on the pir, just one or more?

Installed some HF 2Ds last year. Instructions said do not use on PIRs. Spoke to their tech dept they said: "The lights are designed to be turned on/off no more than 8 times in a day any more will shorten tube and driver life. If the tube fails and the light is left turned on then the HF components will fry."
I complained to wholesaler who said the HF drivers in 2D are not the same as those in batons, where they detect tube failure, and most of the 2D fittings use the same HF drivers.

I fitted them any way as they are left on for about 20mins on the PIR and will not get a lot of switching. Sorry cannot remember manufacturer but it was one of the low cost ones.

No fluorescent lamp, regardless of the operating frequency, likes short duration frequent switching and early failure is inevitable. A better choice for such applications would be an LED equivalent.
