I’m wondering how this abomination didn’t go bang or start a fire. Inside there are cables for 2 lighting circuits on separate phases all spidered of a 5 core cable.

Were there wire nuts on the ends of those bare twisted cores , of were they literally just twisted and shoved in the box...?

No wire nuts on them when I opened it today. I’m just glad it was isolated when I took the lid off.
 
That’s outrageous, NO TAPE TO HOLD THE “joint” together.
;)
