an interesting wall switch (faulty)

A client currently has a wall switch in the bathroom which is no longer operating, the switch operates on the detection of heat from your hand.

to get around the regulation for wall switches in bathroom they installed a SELV switch which currently sits behind the tilling, you operate the lights by your hand going near or touching the tile in question.

I cant take the tile off as that needs to be done by the tiller, i was wondering if anyone could suggest a replacement unit?

If the witing is selv then just install a standard switch rated for the voltage that they are using.

Relocate the switch to the wall outside of the bathroom like most normal people would do, unless you live in the dark ages and have a bit of string attached to the ceiling.......

the switches that I have used similar to that have had a main unit and a sensor/pad that goes behind the tile. how is the SELV created is this by a transformer or from the master unit controlling the switch? if you can identify a manufacture you may be able to get replacement parts.

Ive never heard of these things. Are they tiled into the wall. If so surely it should be maintenance free as there would be no access once it's tiled over. A picture would be helpful.

To remove the tile in a professional causing no damage as the OP then isn't liable for refilling the whole bathroom as the broken tile can't be replaced as it is no longer manufactured or in production.

I think these are 5v sensor pads which can adhere to all sorts. It's a postage stamp sized pcb. Perhaps this one???

If you have access above to the light and wiring you could disconnect the dodgy sensor and fit a wireless switch on the front of the tile.
