Angle grinder

Hello all!

Quick I one here, I'm about to go out and buy an angle grinder for house bashing, need it to chase cable runs ect. Could someone advise on what size to get? I was thinking the 4.5 inch?

If these are occupied houses think again. I have a proper Metabo MFE65 wall chaser with paired vacuum. It is a beast but I only use it on empty properties, still too much dust.

4 1/2" makita, mine's a 110V. cordlesss are a waste of space.

it will get you about 25mm reducing as the disc wears.
And the dust will be everywhere.

The Bosch are decent as well as makita, 4.5 does the job imo, 5" will do your deep boxes better as above, so probably worth getting a 5

which will be plenty by the time its been plastered then skimmed.

10mm for board then a couple for skim.

i use a 4.5inch Bosch for first fixing, i use 240 though as i dont want to lug a tranny around but then on the proper jobs we dont chase the walls, a labourer does.

and my gear has never been pat tested either but thats not an issue as only the grinder is corded

the jsp pro ones are really good and around 4-6 each

or jsp mask for 16 and filters for 10

your not using it right then, with a masonry blade there fine, messy but fine, i have used one a fair bit on rewires.

Yep,if you use it correctly,you can cut a box out in 3 or 4 minutes......then just the 4 hours of dusting,and you're done :icon12:

it gives the new apprentice something to do inbetween tea breaks.

honestly though we dont clean up at all till everything is chased, monkey buckets,shovel and brush is what you need

Masonary dust is more than a bit of an issue with them fella.

They aren't fit for use in an occupied building. So, they are useless imo. Spend a bit more,get a chaser and a vac.

we dont touch occupied rewires, if they want it done clean then sticky back all over.

if it needs to be kept clean ill use a multitool instead.

this thread is about angle grinders not wall chasers. wall chasers wont cut boxes out etc

My use the MFE30, it's very clean with the vacuum but yeah it's more knocking the middle out that makes the mess!

Screwfix have got the Bosch GWS 600 115mm grinder for £34.99 a real bargain I've used one and it's really comfortable to hold and a quality tool

thats the only reason i bought a corded one, for the amount i would use it doesnt justify the £100+ body only price
