I did a test on an indian restaurant months ago. Agreed a price in advance. I haven`t given them the report yet. I`ve been phoning them about 3 times a week and he wont answer his phone. So I`ve got to go to his house now and speak to him.

I have done a few jobs for the asian community and well one didn't pay the other didn't pay and well i don't do work for them now. If only the law was on my side when trying to get money back.........

When someone says we will discuss the cost after you have done the job because you see in my culture............ funny enough I dont get these jobs as I am too expensive:thinking::thinking: as I just dont need the hassle

I've done a lot for the local muslim community and have had very little problem. Several years ago one told me that they like to haggle on price so I always go in a little higher to give me some wriggle room. Once the hands are shaken that seems to be that.
You do have to be a little firm at times because a common thing is "While you're here could you do...."
I never discuss prices after the job, they get a survey visit then a price and give the go ahead or not as the case may be

Lol to true, I went to one guys house and it was a mess I said it need testing and it would be blah blah so much. He then said he knew someone who would do it for free!! So yeah It just ain't worth the hassle..

The thing is you are branded a racist yet I dont see it that way I just see it as a clash of cultures yes they have the right to haggle and you will get no problems from me but I to have rights and one is not to get hassled hence why I always says you myst accept my quote in writing ie email but I will never get it so it just comes down to choice

When I am able to go into a supermarket and haggle for my groceries, or a petrol station and haggle for my diesel I will happily allow my customers to haggle with the prices I quote to them.

Until then 'what you see is what you pay' if people don't want the work at that price then they are free to jog on with my blessings. Everyone gets treated in the same polite but firm way, an equal opportunity pricing policy:)

Place an advertising board outside the job you are working on and that way if the neighbors don't actually want the decorating done at that time, they will know who to ask when they need some work doing. You must need a website for your business.

I tried our local magazine, £50 for a month, and we got a rewire, and other odd jobs out of it. You have to ask to be on the first page though, i was on the 3rd page with only one spark in front, not one call this month...

On your doorstep the mag is called, think its quite popular around the Yorkshire area.

Get friendly with your wholesaler rep too, my dad works for a company and knows our rep quite well, so its been easy for me to get to know him, and he's found me plenty of work, just started a rather large industrial job thanks to him. but no matter how hard it is, you should get friendly with him, just come straight out with it and ask him to pass work on to you.
