What should an electrician earn ? ...cos i aint the type to rip people off....yet i struggle all the time. am i hangin myself ? :hanged:

million dollar question. On site, £100 -£150 per day. Private, more difficult to judge as job could be few days or a few hours. You could price for callout + first hour then x amount per hour after that, or per job. You must remember that your hourly / daily rate need s to cover overheads including getting there and back, pricing the job in the first place, insurances etc..

This is a minefield and much better answers will follow.

enjoy and learn

well i try to make a 100 a day, but fuel etc tends to bring it down with quoting estimating etc,...

For call out ive recently being doing £40 for first then £10 there after .....????

Personally I've found it best to try and do everything on a price where possible..... works out much much better than £xx/hr + mats.

Unless it's a little job on the way home for a bit of beer money

(sorry mate - need to add a bit.... they only other time I would charge an hourly rate would be for fault finding & rectification + any mats required. I tend to charge more than a standard rate for this as it can be a bit more specialist. £40 up to 1 hour, following hours £27.50 - suppose it depends how busy you are really and what you think you are worth)

Ok so im quite new to the industry , and i never got into it for money ,... but i should be able to make a fair wage shouldnt i ?

I tend to try n charge houly mainly for call outs, as you dont know how long faults, etc could take ? ..

I can remember asking brian scadden the same question years ago and he told me the basic thing charge what you need to earn the difference is why should i pay more for the same job thats down to you remeber things do go wrong so price that in your work good luck

Yeh price work is good, depending if your quick enough to make the money, if you just like to plod along stick with the day rate, i get payed just over £100 a day but my fuel costs/vehicle costs are covered (work for a company)

maybe try a little higher to make it all worth while working for yourself

Always a good idea to fully explain your pricing / rates before committing to the job. Everyone knows whats what then and no nasty surprise for the customer.

Saying that I have done the odd little freebie occasionally (rarely though..)
