Instead of worrying about election fever, start worrying about the Ukraine problem. You have a very dangerous psychotic man in the name of Putin that will listen to no-one but himself, that wants to hold on to the reins of power at any cost!! Right now he needs a patriotic cause to take the Russian peoples eye off the nose diving economy and sky high costs of everyday consumables. So it's deny everything, keep it's press/media in the dark, while feeding plenty of shyte!!

Europe and the States aren't going to allow this nutter to redraw Europe's borders with it's blatant incursions into Ukraine (and it hasn't been forgotten that they brought down a civilian airliner, and not for the first time either), so sooner or later something is going to break. So if Putin doesn't back down in the present round of talks, be very worried, this can escalate very rapidly...

The biggest problem is the EU has no balls, the French will try to get into bed with the russians and it will be left to us the Brits to take action. The problem with that is our total forces can sit inside wembley stadium so they won't take us seriously, the US will need to step up the pressure or the Russians will just get their way.

Putin is a sociapath at minimum, his rule depends on looking powerful and he cannot be seen to back down or in a sense even to compromise so yes he is capable of making some dangerous moves to which he already has shown, as for redrawing the map..well its a bit late to make that statement, he already has done that.

Agree with the propaganda fed Russian media, there is a lockdown on all external info that could influence the Russian populas and anyone that stands tall against it seems to be jailed or just disappears.

Your a few years behind the news there.

Maybe you can remember the cinema siege in Moscow, some Chechen muslim loonies held hostages and the Russians gassed them, unfortunaely some of their own as well, then there was the school siege where the brave loonies held little children hostage following one of their "battles" against unharmed toddlers, the bravery of the loonies throughout the world knows no bounds

Yes, I do remember it. That was about 12 years ago IIRC. If that incident had happened here, it would have had a different outcome. They certainly took care of business and sent a message.

Anyone looking forward to war, needs to have a real think about what exactly they are looking forward to.

What about soldiers? You don't join the army with the intention of spending the rest of your life mooching about on the Yorkshire Dales.

There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter.

I doubt there are many soldiers that wake up in a morning hoping they are going to get to kill someone. It's just part of the job.

My cousin did exactly that joined when he was 16 in the fusilers didnt want to learn a trade just to shoot guns at people. Mind you he was and still is a f**kin nutter still suppose that what got him through two tours of paddy land and the gulf why his mates were being blown up.

Thread reopened after a bit of a spring clean. Sorry if you post/s have been deleted but is in effort to keep this thread on track instead of just deleting the entire thing. Hopefully it has not lost its context.

I can only go off people I've met and know in the military

What part? I suppose this is the crux of the matter.

You're not gonna find any crabs, monkeys, wedges, posties, scaleys or scab lifters who joined the army to kill people. Speak to most frontline squaddies though and I think you'll find a stark difference in their reasons for joining!

Well for those of you that think it's all just a joke, ...let's hope your right!!

Putin is probably the most dangerous man in power today!! Having his back up against the wall domestically, which isn't going to be too far away, makes this psychopath an even more dangerous entity....

He's not dangerous, his tough guy image is just a facade. One day he'll make a mistake and his image will crumble, along with his leadership. It's the only thing keeping him in power. His encroachment into the Crimea wasn't born out of greediness or out of some sort of callous need to show off his military might. He was genuinely scared that a pro-European government would take charge of Ukraine and push his naval fleet out, thus weakening his presence in the Mediterranean.

Putin is nowt but a scared little boy puffing his chest out in the hope that he doesn't get bullied in the playground.

He's nowhere else to go in Europe. Most of his Western satellite states are NATO members anyway. He'll continue to not give a stuff, the West will continue to point and wag their fingers whilst secretly not giving a stuff either, and the world will keep on spinning.

The banks and the corporates will continue to rule and world leaders will continue on as their puppets. All this talk of war??? Nonsense, the people who are really in power wouldn't let it happen! They've far too much to lose! lol

This guy IS dangerous, it's not just all a facade. Push this guy against the wall and he'll react and at this moment in time he has the backing of the country. He needs a patriotic cause to keep the home majorities concerns off the home nose diving economy and 60% devaluation of the Rouble which is biting more every day into the pockets of the population, so time is not on his side....

This guy is has done just about everything else to keep himself in power over the years, so don't put anything past him. Eastern Europeans don't have the same way of thinking as the West, leaders need to show strength, and that's never been a problem for Putin!!

if this is so, they need to change their training methods.
Personally i'd prefer to have an army wanting to kill the enermy.

Putin uploaded this to his facebook today lol

Agree with the front line comment sort of....................but not all on your list are thorough bred shiny arses sitting in the rear with the gear & I know you are in no way belittling any other branch/regiment/arm of our forces or their members;

Crabs well that depends on if they are rock apes & believe me some of them are are worth their weight in gold & do not just sit looking after airfields.

Scabbers, hmmm agreed maybe not up for running & gunning but they are more often than not on footsies these days as part of the brick/team patrol & lets not forget the MERT, so some of them are just as much in the danger line.

Wedges...................oooooooh you've not met 9 sqn members then, then there is Felix?

Scaley backs...........met some very interesting ones , Special op Bty & SRR to name a couple (mad as a box of frogs some of them)

But you are right Damien, once you've trained for it you want to actually do it for real at some point instead of slinging rounds at a Fig11 or shells across Hohne.
And lets not forget every one is trained first & foremost as a basic infantry man/woman, even tankers :icon12:

As for going to war, get real we are already at war with Russia....it's called an economic war & going by the way Putin is acting I'd guess it's a war Obama is currently winning.

I see that an official as saying that some agreement has been reached in the secret Ukrainian talks. Let's hope that the West hasn't capitulated in favour of the Russian demands, ...if they have Putin without a doubt will read this as weakness that he can further manipulate, and any peace will be short lived.

That's Always been the problem with the West, they never go into talks with a common united stand, so always end up capitulating beyond what they intended. A big mistake where Putin is concerned, he only understands strong representation and conviction and the consequences of ignoring that strength...

Well we'll just have to wait and see, if things have been sorted out, or it's just going to be another Putin ruse to put even more troops into the Ukraine later on....

Both sides have no discipline so a ceasfire will be ahort lived... pro russian soldiers who are looking for any reason to pull the trigger is only foing to go one way

The cease fire is set for the 15th .... what this space as both side hit hard until then, a massive bomb hit they other day (see my previous post) and came after a possible deal of a cease fire that day.

All that's fine, well to a point. So long as all the heavy Russian arms are withdrawn from the Ukraine along with it's ground forces that are supposedly not there, (which everyone and his dog knows that they are) then things may get a little better. The trouble is that Putin just can't be trusted and has proved that over and over, during the many years he has held official office in Russia.

Quite amazing really for a Russian President to be able to make all these statements of assurance and in the same breath denies any involvement with the Ukrainian separatist terrorists!!
