I am looking to get a decent auto punch. Have seen them costing over a £100 but aint gonna pay that. Just want something that really works. Any recommendations out there? I have bought a few of the £6-7 priced ones and they lose their punch randomly which is really annoying. I use it for marking concrete blocks when fitting equipment and it provides a very accurate mark for plugs while giving a nice non-skid start point.

Tell me more about marking concrete blocks I'm genuinely interested

When you place a piece of equipment to fit on a wall the problem is having something thin enough to go through the screw holes. An auto punch fits nicely. You can (if you land on one) punch the knobbly bits and dent them with an auto punch and get an exact placement for your plug. So I always use an auto punch to mark on concrete and obviously steel etc. It works a treat

Yeh I've ordered the Starret, give it a go I says to meself. Thanks for that. I'll get back to you. Looks like a good bit of kit well made and authentic looking somehow.

Go to Wickes, and by the till you will find a small chalk marking tool called a Marxman. £7.99.
It was invented by a handyman/ caretaker who took it to Dragons Den and it was snapped up by Deborah Needham.

Brilliant invention, it fires a blob of fluorescent coloured chalk through the tiniest of fixing holes up to a depth of four inches I think.
Bought one a couple of weeks ago and wouldn't be without it.

Try one, you'll wonder how you managed with out one.

Yes I have seen that chalk device but it does not give you a good non skid point for your drill especially on knobbly concrete block. But still may give it a go next time I'm in there.
