Career change at 39 - am I wasting my time

Hi All,

I am looking to retrain at the age of 39. What are the chances of an employer taking me on and giving me a chance?

I do have my electrical installation qualifications NVQ levels 2 and 3. All I need is the practical training that will lead me to my AM2.

Does anyone know of any companies in the London or South-East area who might be interested in training me?

By nvq I assume you mean the portfolio? Surely that's all the practice you need.

No, I would still need the experience to go forward and take the AM2 test to be fully qualified. Hence I am looking for an employer to give me that experience

If you can do most things electrical then you would get agency work in London tomorrow , they are screaming out for electricians in all sectors domestic and commercial

I still need to take the AM2 test. As it stands I would still be regarded as a trainee electrician. I could take the AM2 to become fully qualified, but I would fail miserably as I have had enough practical experience to pass the test.

Get out and start working. Start knocking doors and be honest with potential employers about your position.

If you are worried about lack of experience then offer yourself for a few days free as a trial.
you will get somebody willing to take you on, there is as mentioned a major shortage of all trades at present.
