Hi, looking for some advice.. the wall behind my tv makes clicking/popping noises when my tv is switched on and again when it’s switched off. It’s similar to the noise TVs make when they’re heating up/cooling. Don’t want the electrician to have a wasted visit if it’s nothing?

Definitely worth investigating.
electricity only goes pop and crack when there is a problem.

I can understand arcing sounds coming from a bad connection when the TV is on. This would pose a minor fire risk and should be investigated promptly. But it is most unlikely for a bad connection to make more noises when the TV is switched off, even though the current doesn't reduce to zero with most TVs unless actually unplugged.

How sure are you that the sounds are coming from the wall and not the back of the TV? Have you tried plugging the TV into an extension lead from a different circuit?

Is it wall mounted ?

Is it a plasma tv

What size ?

Older tvs such as plasma get very hot and as such make noises when cooling.

If there was arcing in the supply to the TV, I would expect to see some disturbance in the picture. Plug the TV in elsewhere, and try plugging something that takes a fair bit of power, such as a 2kW heater into the TV socket.
