Not disputing what you are saying bobcat 1, for the life of me, I just cant see how a piece of plastic sheathing, or plastic oval conduit will provide ANY protection from a Plasterers trowel, these things are sharp, and the way Plasterers wield them about, almost make them into a weapon, bluudy lethal things, trowels not Plasterers.I was skimming through the NICEIC site guide and this little section threw me:
I tend to generally clip my cables rather than use Oval or Capping, but is this saying the NICEIC or even the IET now want you to always use capping/oval?
I’ve never capped or used conduit when doing domestic work, these days they rarely plaster straight on to the wall. It’s always dot and dab then plaster which avoids the need for capping, tin hat on!!!
NoYou seen how some plasterers apply adhesive, with the trowel at 90 deg to the wall

Well you’re ok then.
Well you’re ok then.
Yes I suppose I am.Well you’re ok then.
Not really because when I was house bashing we used Split oval metal conduit and metal sheathingYou are a VERY brave man not capping when the plasterer will be getting his sharp trowel out..................
And Pete - I disagree with you.......... never had a cable damaged (by a plasterer) where its capped...
I use galv clout nails for capping .I use both. Using clips to hold capping into the wall.
