Here's a littlediversity calculation challenge for anyone who wants to have a go atit,
Below is a list of allof the connected loads I had on a music festival over the last weekend, this represents the total connected load across the whole site, thechallenge is to calculate what the actual load is going to be afterallowing for diversity.
And then what sizegenerator would you specify to supply this load? Generators areavailable in 20(16), 30(25), 40(33), 60(48), 100(80), 150(120),180(144), 200(160) KVA(KW) continuous power (+10% for standby), allare 3 phase output, with a quoted power factor of 0.8, output voltageis adjustable (I had them at 240V)
Overload warning andtrip curves are adjustable and I can point you in the direction ofthem if you want to get that detailed about it.
Obviously not all ofthese loads appear in the standard diversity tables nor do most of usencounter this kind of site so i'll help with the specialist bits.
PA system - my ownrecipe for the diversity when dealing with mixed varieties of musicis 50% of subs power + 25% of mid/high power.
Strobes + molefays – allow 80% flc of mole and ignore strobes for this gig
facelight – expect tobe dimmed to 2/3rds of full power
multiple stages –performers will only be on one stage at a time on this site.
Stage working light –used for packing up the stage after the gig has finished
LED stage lighting –5 colours all seperately controllable and take equal proportion ofthe load, assume 3 colours at full power at any one time.
Tea tent – usuallyclosed by late evening
fish and chip van –start serving early evening
festoon lighting – onwhen it's dark, can be on during the day and swapped around to finetune phase balance and achieve ideal loading.
Main stage:
2 x Blowers forinflatable stage –1200W ea (same as a bouncy castle blower)
PA – 2 x speakerstacks made up of 2 x 2KW 2x18"subs, 2 x 400W 15"mid/sub, 2x 500W 15" mid/high, 2 x 450W 12" mid/high.
Monitors + backline –they never did tell me how much or what it was, the usual collectionof marshal, fender, aguilar etc cabinets, allow 3KW after diversity.
Lighting-
3 x atomic strobe
4 x 2 lamp molefay(750W lamp)
12 x robin 100 LED –200W ea
6 x robe POINTE –470W ea
4 x mac 250 beam –300W ea
8 x LED par – 165W ea
6 x S4 par forfacelight – 575W ea
12 x LED batten – 80Wea
4 x 150W metal halideflood (working light)
Unplugged stage:
1 x 1200W blower
PA- 2 x 400W 15"mid/sub, 2 x 350W 12" mid/high
Backline – samesituation as above, 0.5KW will be more than enough
lighting -
3 x LED batten – 80Wea
2 x PAR 64 forfacelight – 1KW ea
Circus tent:
PA 6 x 75W mid/high
1 x beer chiller 1.2KW
1 x 5 x 60W festoonlighting
Beer tent
4 x beer chiller 1.2KWea
2 x fridge 750W ea
1 x 18 x 60W festoonlighting
Main arena:
2 x 5 x 60W festoonlighting
2 x 6 x 60W festoonlighting
1 x 8 x 60W festoonlighting
2 x 25 x 60W festoonlighting
1 x 33 x 60W festonlighting
3 x 1.2KW blower (rodeoand bungee run)
2 x 1.2KW walk infridge
2 x 750W small fridge
2 x 3KW urn (tea tent)
8 x 13A sockets inreception tent for computers and 1 x printer only.
Catering vans, tentsetc:
Curry tent – 1 x 3KWrice kettle
Van 1 – 4KW variouscooking appliances
Van 2 + 3 – coffeemachine, instant handwash type water heater, kettle, coffee grinder,2 x freezer, 1 x sandwich toaster (actual power unknown)
Van 4 – candy flossmachine, lights etc 5KW (quoted by stalholder, unconfirmed)
Van 5 – the fish andchip van – 15KW almost entirley cooking load with a few lights. +second truck with 3 x fridges.
You will probably comeup with a different sized generator to what I specified for the jobas I didn't know that catering vans 2,3,4 or 5 existed until the dayafter the genrators arrived on site! Our members who have worked inthis industry will feel my pain on this one!
Good luck! I will postthe actual size of generator I used another day, and once i've hadtime to review the data from the data logger I will post the actualmeasured values.
