Hi All

I have a domestic two storey house to wire with hollow concrete slabs on the first floor and I was considering drilling all the sockets etc down through the slabs to save the wall tracking. Does anyone know if this is permitted with building regs?

Thanks

but you'd still have to chase across below the ceiling downstairs.an alternative would be fitting coving with cables behind and/or skirting trunking.

all depends on when the house was built. over engineered pre 1970, so you can drill wherever you want without compromising the structure. under engineered later, so be carefull., it's meant to stay up for a few years before collapsing.

Don't think your allowed to put chase/holes in hollow blocks floor or walls. Its mentioned in Building Regs Guide, electricians of.

Having checked the guide, it only talks about depths of chase in wall leafs, and 'not to be positioned as to impair the stability of the wall, particular where hollow blocks are use'. Guess if you have a strum through Part A, it will give you some guidance on the subject, I can't be arsed to myself :)

I assume this is a new build with Bison unit flooring on first floor?

I've never had an issue with drilling down with building control. Quite often have some big holes put in them for the likes of the MVHR ducting, plumbing etc.
