Discuss Finally! No more faffing about with Sleeve! in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

I've just thought of another downside to CPC sleeving.

I'm sat here, having a day off. My conservatory lights have been left on. I want a switch right by me to switch them off. the switch is miles away. There is however a PL and N coming from the switch all the way to a point (a pull switch light) right where i would like the new switch. Get rid of the light and I've got a PL and SL, just need a Link for the commons, but i haven't got one, or have I. You can see where I'm going now.

Instantly my brain disregards the idea because it would be completely wrong and unsafe to use a bare conductor and make it live throughout it's run. If it was completely sleeved though, that does actually make it safe to use as a live conductor, just from the point of view that it is covered. Of course I wouldn't do it as the cable and class 1 item wouldn't be earthed, but it did make me think twice. I think a DIY'er is now far more likely to use it as a live conductor. It'll be interesting to read the forum threads in 10 years (when I may be retired) and have a little smirk at the Dave's post 'oh my god, I can't believe what I've seen today'. Mike replies 'Yeah, that's common practise with DIYer's these days'.

PS.. We just need to see if I put my money where my mouth is now. Saving 20 minutes on a CU change sounds nice😄 (and think how neat you could get it!!)
Determined not to buy it though... at present!
