Scotland gov rules are that alarms can be 10 year sealed battery powered or mains powered while building regs seem to insist on mains powered.

Are the regs changing to allow 10 year sealed battery powered alarms to be acceptable in England?

You want to consult Table 1 of BS5839-6, this details the tote and grade of alarms allowed for various types of (domestic) premises.

Typically you end up with an LD2 grade system. There are various guides put there (free) which detail what is allowed where.

Aico have some great stuff (for free) on thier website to help with this, including a pocket guidebook they has simplified Table 1 above. There are others out there (Honeywell Notifier as an example) if you want some others.
