Hello all - I have a 60 AMP sub panel that services a few 15 amp circuits and 3 240V A/C Compressors. I want to use a portable generator to run everything EXCEPT the A/C. What I want to do is connect the Generator through a DPDT transfer switch to the Circuit in the main panel that services the sub panel. The wattage is a good match for what I want to run. My Question is, the 30Amp 240v generator will be connected to a 60Amp 240v breaker in the main panel. Is that a problem? Clearly the 60 AMP breaker will never be triggered, but the 15 amp breakers in the sub panel should still protect. Am I over thinking this? Thanks for any advice.

Robis no using that 60 amp breaker will be fine since your 30 amp receptacle on your generator has the overcurrent and short circuit protection built into the generator. It’s no different than adding a main lug only sub panel Since your protection is in the main panel
