I'm running a few new circuits inside my home...working my way backwards (wiring from inside the house, back towards the outdoor panel). I have a large outdoor junction box, approximately 18' away from the panel, serving as an entry point / splice box as it leads cables into the home.

Again, I'm working backwards...but once I get my new cable to the outdoor junction box, is it possible to take the ground wire from my new circuit/cable...and pigtail it to other grounds which already lead back to the panel? Or is my new ground required to go all the way to the panel? (The conduit leading from the j-box to the panel is getting fairly full, so if it wasn't required, it would help)

Thanks all!

My friend every cable has an equipment ground and they all need to terminate in the panel and it sounds like you are going to have too many wires in the box. The NEC has box fill calculations and it sounds like you might exceed. I don’t know what size box you are using but I would think that you need a 6 inch box at a minimum

Thank you @Megawatt ! The junction box has plenty of space — it is either a 12x12 or 14x14. The limiting factor is the conduit leading from the box to the panel. That's why I wasn't sure if I could just stop my ground wire at the junction box and pigtail into one of the other grounds that's going all the way to the panel...or if it was required to take the ground to the panel on its own.

You didn’t say but a piece of 2 inch PVC pipe from the panel to your junction box. Good luck with your project
