Discuss has everyone registered their Gold card for ECS check in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Just opted in to the registered electrician thing too - and paid £12 for a shiny new card with registered electrician on it. . Does this mean I can now trick Joe public into thinking I'm registered with the scams?

You only would need to join one of the C.P. Schemes if you are doing work that is under the Part P of building regulations.

i tried to register my gold card, but they rejected it, said they want JIB, not Amex.

Wonder if they give you a window to achieve the 18th edition as when I registered my card you do need to hold the up to date version of bs 7671

The ECS Check doesn't seem to work though :(

I can see absolutely no point of signing up for this new 'registered status'.

If an employer wants to know my skills they can look at my JIB/ECS card (which to be at least gold shows I've undertaken required training), or I can provide training certificates.

Whats the point of this JIB code of conduct we are being pushed to sign up for?! Every employer will have their own code of conduct anyway so it's not necessary to join this JIB code..

Code of conduct terms state, knowledge and certification of current bs7671 is required. But this is already a requirement of the JIB/ECS card anyway.

Most interestingly, the terms of conduct state by signing you're agreeing to your information being shared with 'authorised companies'. Who are these authorised companies? Electrical employers? Training providers? Employment blacklist companies? We all know the JIB hold a alot of information on us, the applications forms are very detailed.

Call me a cynic but I can't see the JIB (which is ultimately run by employers) investing time and money into a new app without any financial benefits to them. Personal data is a very valuable asset.

As far as I am aware?
The JIB will also give you a gold card if you are a member of the IEE/IET (no other checks).
The IET will make you a member if you are or were a Warrant Officer in the RAF (again no other checks).
