0.75 is not acceptable so I would start by checking the circuit looking for any joints or cable damage, maybe there is something connected outside that is open to the elements? Buried under ground? As a student myself I come here for a lot of information and these guys are good at helping but you have to appreciate they had to learn themselves and in order to get a little you have to give a little. ..

do they actually refer to it as testing between Live and Live these days then?

The easiest way to answer an ir testing exam question is to state 'test between all live conductors and all live conductors and earth. Saves loads of writing and saves the examiner loads of reading, also less chance of losing a mark for a silly mistake in a more detailed explanation, so I was taught.
