Right where do i begin ...

Got called to job because door had been kick in by police abd the door strike wasnt working so took off old strike and replace with exact same strike but new. New strike 8-12vac on testing i was getting 11.34v so that was fine . So after install door strike worked for say a week , then although it was still buzzing when someone push release at handset it wasnt releasing door .. thought might be faulty door strike so change it again for another new one . after a week it did the same , any ideas ???

as the door has been kicked in,is it the same door? if a new ones been fitted is it sitting right.if the door lock is pushing against the strike it wont release,if you can hear the strike buzz or click on pressing handset id say the door is pushing against it,try it with the door open and see if it works that way.

Did you fit a MOV across the terminals?

Either that or you've got a possible short somewhere

Fail secure . the Strange thing was all i did was replace for an exact replica ... and the fact it works for some time first then decides not to is frying my brain.

As alarm man has said it'll be to do with mounting of the new door. There is no rime or reason why an identical door realise will not work with the existing install, something will be pressing on the latch, well I hope so good luck cheers good night. I love this diminished responsibility whilst posting technique.

has the lock failed or is it an intermittant fault, you need to do more tests, does it work with the rte button and breakglass or is it just the handset at fault, try it again with the door open and just use your finger to open it when button pressed if it works try pressing the latch back with your finger and press the release button if it works still that should rule out a badly fiiting door,if it doesnt it points to the door forcing on the latch, then start on the power tests,volts/current draw etc..

Ill be hoonest if you add to what the other guys have said , if the door was kicked in then the integrety of the wiring could be the problem if i were you id rewire that area as alarm man said its an intermittent fault so only way to be sure is to rewire ,weve all seen how the police kick in doors just a thought
