All dead were they? before you cut them?
A few years I was doing a strip-out in a partially de-energised building. Just as my snips bit into a cable that I knew was dead..... massive bang outside and everything went dead. Like the whole road. Crapped myself for a second or two before I realised that a ceramic had given out on an overhead 33kV line next to the house at exactly the same time and shorted the line.

Change of pants moment?

Owing to the amount of copper showing ,if they weren't dead before, then they are now and you would have known all about it at the time of cutting.

fair bit of stripping needed ... xmas bonus when weighed in.

OK so what do we have there. PILCSTA 4-core, is that a lead-sheathed concentric, and some PILC 2-core? What's the background? Might be interested in some samples of the smaller two.

The smaller two are;

Rubber insulated, fabric bound concentric. Red fabric outer, about 20mm². Have about 10 ft.

Paper insulated, lead sheathed two core, about 10mm². Only about 40cm that was trapped above a joist

These were all previously disconnected and long since replaced, with both ends and full length visible.

I'll fess up, I didn't check to see if the were dead.

Think you might have had an idea after you shorted the first live conductor, clues would be large flash, brown pants, no more drill bit or cutters, untangling yourself from any steps you we on at the time,

Trust the plebs on here to find more interest in the background than the really interesting cable smorgasbord.

..and its the draining board of a Belfast sink.
i know the Irish Sea has been rough lately, but when did Belfast sink?
