Motor connected up and feeding happily, although there is a little excess friction in the main geartrain even after thorough oiling. I'll have a look inside that tomorrow. Knocking off for now.

I've put a silicon rectifier in place of the mercury arc for the moment. We need to do a risk / benefit analysis on bringing the mercury bulb because it might not be visible anyway. I don't want to move it if I don't have to.

Also mirror back in and ready..

This, people, is where our industry started in earnest, 150 years ago, when the earliest practical applications of the arc lamp offered a light brilliant enough to illuminate streets and buildings without gas or quicklime.

Filament lamps soon took over for low-intensity uses, but until the 1950s the carbon-arc was the only practical high-intensity, high-power light source for projection and searchlight duties.. Projection arcs such as this were widely superseded by xenon in the 1970s and 1980s.

A good morning's work, time for lunch.

I’ve been watching the old Gerry Anderson programmes on BritBox recently..... looks like you’ve got the “high tech” computer props from UFO and Space 1999
