Recently I had multiple break ins into my car and seems like it is not going to stop soon. I was wondering if someone could give me an idea for a relative simple way to alert me when the car door is open.

I know the car is already wired to beep and turn the light on inside when the door opens. I need to somehow extend this functionality and have some kind of signal/alert that will wake me up at night when the break in happens next time. I really want to meet the person...
Could you please suggest something that can be done by a non-experienced non-electrician person? Thanks in advance.

Get your garage to fit a car alarm.

as above, or buy a DIY kit. about £30 on ebay, and fit it yourself.

Thank you. From reading the manual to the product you linked to I'm not sure how this will help me. Could you please say more? And I don't have a garage, the car is outside. Thanks!

Take your Car to a garage and pay them to fit one

Buy a Rottweiler, it sleeps in the car and warns you of any break in. Plus it keeps hold of said suspect till you arrive. Then all you have to do when you get there is say "Eat". Lol.
I was about to post something similar.
We have a fairly big dog, 33kg and all muscle. I sometimes leave him in the car if I go to the store. Car not locked otherwise if he moves, he'd set off the alarm.
He isn't actually agressive but who would take the chance?

Has anyone noticed the O.P is in Seattle?

To the O.P, by the time you get to the car they'll be gone.
If they are still there, you wouldn't want to be meeting them face to face, unless your gun is bigger than their gun and you are quicker on the draw.

Just saying... If you had a wireless alarm, you could put a sensor in the van or car on its own zone and setting button so you can just arm that without the house, when it's set, gets triggered, sets house alarm off,

This is the dangerous beast:

All 70 lbs of him.

Yeah, good idea, but no alarm at home. thanks

The are plenty of pager alarms on the market....basically if the alarm activates, the pager bleeps in your pocket.....try local fitters, diy stores, ebay....plenty to choose from

How does one get triggered?
Could you please give me some links to the products online? Thanks!

Well, my car has an alarm, but somehow the thieves can disable it and open the doors without triggering it (my car has a proximity key system). I'm not sure how exactly they are doing it, some say they have an amplifier that lets them pick up/boost my key's signal from home.
So I'm looking for a lower tech solution to notify me given that the car's alarm is being disabled.
