multi strand 2.5mm T&E - is it OK to use?

I've never seen this type of cable either. Isn't it as simple as look for the 'kite mark' or similar (underwriters laboratory etc) approval/conformance stamped on the cable.

I've just be checking with Draka and FS cables it seems 2.5 mmsq T&E with stranded conductor is available in harmonized colours, Table 9 of BS 6004 specifies alternative conductor (class 2) options for 1.5 mmsq and 2.5 mmsq stranded conductor twin and earth cable. It's not as common as the solid conductor versions but according to the manufacturers it is available off the shelf.

Just seen your post. Although it is an old one I wouldlike to comment on your question in case someone else is looking.
I have only been in this Country since 1990, having originated from NewZealand. In New Zealand everyone uses stranded twin and earth and the earth isalso sleeved. Solid is not used because it is not flexible enough, takes longerto get straight and is not so easily twisted together.
It would seem that the solid here in the UK is used because people do notnecessarily know stranded is available, which it is, in 1.5 and 2.5 twin andearth. I never use solid as I feel it is inferior and a real sod to use.
If people started asking for stranded twin and earth instead of solid then the supplierswould have to make it easier to get. RS have started selling it, by the way.
I find it hard to understand why every other cable youbuy has a sleeved earth yet twin and earth does not. The cost difference issurely minimal.
If you get the chance to buy stranded then do so. Youwill never go back to solid.

We used to have stranded, pag. Personally, I hate solid core and love working with the old imperial stuff. I bet the accountants who decided to switch us over to solid-core never had to work with it...

I have purchased stranded 1.5mm and 2.5mm twin and earthfrom the wholesalers, but I had to wait for it, as it was not off the shelf.Looking through the RS catalogue recently it looks as though they do it,although I have not yet confirmed this.

It would be an extremely good move to have the 1mm / 1.5mm / 2.5mm stranded. The present solid core sizes was one of the worst moves made during the metrification of UK cables!! I'm sure every single electrician here, that has worked with the older stranded imperial cables, would wholeheartedly agree!! lol!!

About time the UK caught up. Been using stranded power cables in Australia for years. As for cost?? It was actually cheaper there to buy stranded than solid, as no-one used solid, preferring the cable that is far far easier to work with and terminate.

Alas, I rarely do electrical work here in the Uk. Guess I have been spoiled, hey??

I don't know why the UK doesn't make more use of stranded cables, they are far superior than that of the solid core cables

Think i've already mentioned on a previous thread that we only use stranded metric cables on our project, we just don't use solid core cables. Come to that, you won't see any T&E cable on this project either!! lol!!

The courser stranded building wire of course. Basically the equivalent to the older imperial wires/cables. 85+ % of all our installations are metal containment, so will generally be 105 C insulated singles....
