Not qualified enough to put up christmas lights

I've just been round the corner to an old ladies house to put up her Christmas lights round her windows etc. Bog standard plug in sequencing led Christmas lights. It's a cup of tea job, no money to change hands I'm just doing her a favour.
As I'm not part p qualified and don't belong to niceic she didn't want me to it as she would be breaking the law.
Her son is coming to visit on Saturday and he will put them up for her. He's a merchant banker ( Really he is ).
She's a nice old dear but she's seen this on rogue builders or something on tv.
Result... I got my cup of tea and we had a nice chat but the lights stay in their boxes till Saturday.
It's a shame really.

For anything that just plugs in you don't need the registration mate. As long as you got your cuppa the jobs a goodun though

the mind boggles. some ----pot tv programme advises against a fully qualified sparks plugging in some lights, but recommends a Electrical Trainee half trained idiot as long as he's got a niceic domestic idiot sticker on his van.

NIC approved Christmas illumination installer course now available at only £299+VAT, yearly registration available at £69+VAT. As we are serious about safety we have also added 3 lines of dialogue to BS7671 in relation to these progressive changes, these can be found in the latest version of the regs book which will be available January 2015 for £79+VAT

You joke about it but that reminds me of some guy who thought PAT testing companies (the kind which people set up after doing a 2 day course and buying a van) needed regulation and tried to sell membership to his organisation.

Update.
Just had a phone from her son asking me to go round again and put up the lights.
He told me she was convinced that She would be prosecuted if she let an electrician work on her house who didn't have part p and wasn't niceic but she knows different now.
He also said he'd like to bump into the bloke from rogue builders!
Sorted!

Do you do the step ladder course as well?
