Morning guys,

Just been to look at a CU change and there was a bit of an oddity with the PME connection in the old black cut out.

Looking at the history, it used to have a earth rod but at some point the DNO upgraded the network but didnt provide an earth connection, but someone has connected there own.

There has been all sorts of stuff added and taken away over the years, but it appears that the PME connection comes out of the top of the cut out opposite the neutral connection, rather than the little PME terminal on the side.

In my wisdom i neglected to take a picture, but i did a quick test and the results were good with 0.30ohms and 0.77ka.

Can i leave it like this or should i inform the DNO?

My only concern is that they are not aware and have it recorded as such.

DIY pme connection is not allowed and possibly unsafe.
Get the dno out, I think you might be able to see some bare copper at the service head? Wink

It's not uncommon to find the earth cable put out from the additional neutral knockout, not the designed one on the side. If the rest of it looks intact and solid then I'd suggest just making a note of it on the report - you can't code it as it's not the consumer's kit therefore outside of your remit/expertise (theoretically....). If you smell a rat then have the customer report it to their energy supplier to send a meter inspector out rather than the DNO, that way you can't get a surprise bill for a DNO callout....
