Hi everyone. So the other day I came on here and asked for some advice on controlling the speed of a motor with a motor speed regulator. Thanks to all those who helped out.

It has now arrived but I am not sure how to connect it up. Can you help?

Here is a diagram of the circuit and the motor. I have written on the 4 connectors what they are.

So I plugged the cable running from the switch in to the + Power connector, and the cable from the motor in to the - Motor connector. The connection is complete but the control knob doesnt work. What am i missing? Have I done it right?

What happens to the - Power and + Motor connectors? Are they needed? Does something need to go in them so I can use control knob. What about the red cable in my diagram? Does that need to go back through the motor speed regulator?

as i see it, your battery power goes to the 2 terminals marked power on the left. the motor to the motor terminals on the right.
 
what voltage are we talking about? 12V d.c.?
 
so wire 12V supply to the left ( + and - ) and the motor to the right ( + and - )
 
Just tried it and the speed regulator blew up. It just banged and something flew off it. Well thats progress. Now I am completely baffled. I dont understand any of this. I need to know which cables go in to which part. Well it doesnt really matter any more. Nevermind.
 
As above - your power in on the left positive and negative
your motor connections on the right positive and negative
you pot' is connected as shown above red +, black - and white (wiper) is in the v

I assume you checked the pot' connections with a multimeter before connecting as they can vary with brand but usually the outer ones on that style will be control supply and centre the wiper... if this pot differs or you connect wrong you can short out the control supply.
Did the pot' come with the kit?

If your sure this is definately a 12v dc kit and the connections made are as we discussed then welcome to the world of cheap chinese tat... designed to make the western world feel dumb when it won't work!

It all looks very straight forward as others have said. 12v positive & negative input to controller and 12v positive & negative out to motor. Did you wire this up like your drawing suggests? as this is not right and may have already damaged the controller. Your drawing shows a direct connection from the battery to the motor completely by passing the controller.

I suspect you have the polarity wrong the battery -ve and +ve(after the switch) should have gone to the power side of your board the output on the board (motor) should have been conected to the motor.
The polarity is very important when using semiconductors



please ignore the wire colours shown you need to check which colour is +ve and -ve at the battery and then use diagram

Just above the IN terminal block, I see a diode (commonly called an "idiot diode"), whose sole purpose in life was to conduct if the input had reversed polarity, and blow a fuse, the tracks to it, or even itself up or go short-circuit. It would do no further harm to physically cut it out and try the module again (connected correctly, of course) before writing it off completely.
