as long as your cablesa are adequately supported and > 2" from ceiling/floor, easy peasy
 
nah, just clip to top of bottom timber.
 
yeah, the woodworm will do that, eventually.
 
If you have a few cables I use the metal strapping and as tell said clip to top of bottom joist I sometimes clip to bottom of top joist if floor is already down and lots of downlights to cut out in case I miss judge with the hole saw!!
 
I came across these joists on a self-build I was working on. I cable tied the cables to the metal struts - about half way up - so they were well out of the way of any screws/nails through either ceiling or floor.

I did the plumbing the same way using plastic pipes - but made sure to keep the pipes well away from the cables !!!

Saved a lot of aggravation drilling etc.
