hi just contacted d.n.o about fitting isolator for a c.u. change for elecsa assessment in my own flat. They said get a registered spark to do the work. then I replied that I need isolator so I can do the work and register. They then said to register with elecsa and then do work. I cant register until I complete the work and can not do the work unless it is isolated. Am I just getting dizzy going round in circles or just pull fuse and do work. I have 2330 level 3 so classed as competent but are they? what do I do?

Is that a seal. I have never saw one! Every time I need to pull the fuse it has not had seals on it!

No daft lad

That's a seal

Hi, Geordie sparks post is spot on. I was in exactly the same position as you a few years ago for my assessment, i always wear electricians gloves with protectors and eye protection when pulling the fuse, just make sure you either, cover with tape when the fuse is out or remove fuse and replace carrier. I always reseal afterwards. Seals on ebay.

Cheers

Spot on. Buy some off ebay. No one cares! Apathy rules.

there are houses that aren't sealed and haven't been for 39 years. No one cares.

there are houses that are sealed with seals off ebay, no one cares.

no one cares.

The only person that is important is you and your standards.

the only time someone will be interested is if theres a problem. And it affects their butt

And that, in a nutshell is it!! :)

Slightly off topic, but around my way I keep being told by DNO guys and meter fitters that they won't fit isolators anymore - the reason being Part P. As they're 'right side' of meter it's therefore customers side which means it comes under Part P and the DNO/Meter agencies aren't P approved.

But back on topic - pull it, do it, put it back.

Haha fantastically relevant point which i've seen no one else mention.

That changes a lot of arguments/debates on this foroum!

Is the 'meter' some kind of boundary, like the gates of Mordor...? Why don't they move the boundary, so to speak, to the supplier side of the isolator (sealed!), leaving the other side unsealed?

sounds like an excuse to not fit them thus saving a few pounds. Allowing the top 200 to continue getting the latest 4.6 range rover

The trouble today is we no longer call the ones who will do the job, these idiots we buy our elect from don't have anyone answering the phone who even know what we are asking for or they don't want to do anything as they have to pay the local elect board or meter guy to come to do the job

So far, I've not had a problem with Isolators being fitted. Eon do it for free, SSE do it for free, BG charge. Always get the customer to sort it and they've never been asked why.

EDF don't, I know that for sure! And it seems like Eon sub a lot of meter fitting their way, so it's anyone's guess!
