Hello,

Basically i re trained at college to enter the electrical industry. I have site and domestic experience, ive recently become upemployed and after applying for jobs ive been told i need to be of 17th edition standards.

I have certificates in the following:

  1. City and guilds electrical principles
  2. City and guilds Level 2 electrical installation 100/3569/2?
  3. Level 2 EAL certificate for domestic electrical installer
  4. Level 3 EAL diploma in electrical services

And also the two certificates below,

Before i apply to do a 17th editon course is there another qualification i need? As all i read are city and guilds qualifications not EAL, also does anyone know of a reliable company to book the 17th edition course with around Northamptonshire?

Thanks for the reply, my college tutor said we we're one of the first to do an EAL course instead, hence my confusion with people talking about C&G qualifications. So if i do the 17th edition course that is ok, i dont need to do any others in between?

you don't need the 17th edition course your course is 17th edition lol, you just need a j.i.b card so you can do site work, you will be graded as a labourer but least you can do site work, agency's are thick, I got asked that years ago

Thanks for the reply, if that's the case that's spot on! Like I say being an EAL course instead of city and guilds is where I'm getting confused, I guess it's just the equivalent?

Have a look on the JIB site, there is a list of C&G and EAL qualifications they recognise as being technical certs. As John says you should have studied to the 17th edition, the qualification is only required if you studied to 16th or earlier but there is a lot of confusion about this amongst agencies, employers and colleges who can sell you another course.
