I own a Robin 1620 tester and when using the rcd function, the dials are set, it is plugged into a socket but as soon as the switch is turned on ( not when the test button is pressed) there are no lights on the tester confirming correct voltage, the rcd trips and there is no reading at all
any thoughts?

Sounds like the tester is faulty. How old is it, last calibration etc?

thats what i'm beginning to think. the 1620 is an old model i think it may be a PCB
if it is, i dont know that you would still get another now
sounds like it may be expensive but hey ho, I suppose nothing lasts forever

Do you have another RCD you can test it on, a known good one? Or have access to another tester to check the existing RCD?
