Just been to quiz night at the local and as the quiz just finished we had a total power failure, now been the local I mean local as im 200yrds down the road.. so got my gear and came back, after a bit of humming and harrring I told landlord the cutout has gone and to ring the emergency call out number to which he did.

40mins later (excellent service) guy turns up so landlord left it to me to explain....

"I said the cutout fuse has gone, the service cable is warmer than the 16mm tails so suggest the cutout has a burnt out primary fuse pin" ... looking at me he says he wont know until he's cut the seal and checked --- I'm proud to say I nailed the diagnosis .... fuse failed incoming live link burnt out and new service head needed :)

As he walked out he said how the hell did you know...so said you can open the cutout to see what is wrong and don't have the limitations I do, so using my knowledge and experience I used the temp' of the cables to identify it wasn't a normal overload but a terminal failure on the DNO side as I could see the supply cable easily matched the 16mm tails off the cutout yet they were cooler.... 1 bloke walking away impressed and me now a drunk CSI candidate ;)

Oh! and free beer night coming up!
