Switched fuse within 300mm from sink

Hi guys,

when completing a EICR how would you code a switch fuse spur feeding a water heater situated within 300mm from a sink. thinking about the splashing and possible switch use with wet hands.

was thinking code 3 if RCD protected and code 2 if no RCD protection?

no code.IMO. the 300mm is omly a guide, not against regs.

I've never had to change one because of water ingress or ever known of any shock given from such a situation, obviously if its sat on the sink then yes but like as been said, 300mm if a suggestion which tends to be the design norm'... its a common sense approach for me if it needed coding at all which it would have to be very poorly sited.

i am talking about a switched fuse here not a non switched fuse. If its off and someone starts washing there hands then releases they not hot water, they the chance that some people would switch this on with wet hands

Which regulation do you feel justifies the coding you have given in your initial post ?

You'd need to get a lot of water through a switch with a finger on it for it to become a problem.
Damp fingers is about the best you'd have by the time you've lifted your hand across to the switch.

yeah, but you also need to consider the scenario where a plumber has fitted the sink and put the taps in upside down, thus spraying the FCU.

So moving it 300mm away from the sink is going to stop wet hands switching it, how?.. I see your concern but in practice you would need to be pouring water over it to be at any real risk.. many people get out the bath shower and enter the bedroom flicking the light on with wet hands but I have yet to hear of anyone getting shocks.

I always fail to look at it from the Ultra wide screen HD Cinemascope picture.

However if the sink was upside down wouldn't the SFU and heater be in the cupboard under (over )the sink ???
