Hi, I have 2 hallway lights that switch on together (used to before I got my hands on them). I am trying to install 2 spot lights. I have added pics of my wiring, which does not work. Pic1 light switches on but wont switch off, Pic2 light wont switch on. Some wires have coloured tape so I have followed the tape colour, instead of the colour of the wire (ie brown tape on blue wire). Can anyone Please advice. Oh, Im single parent & cant afford a pro, in case thats some ones advice. Thanks :)

They where going to be, am I supposed to put them in something before putting them in the ceiling. The lights previously where just normal hanging lights. Not sure if Im making sense, Thank you Westward10 :) A. I should have left them alone or B hired someone (shaky head emoji).

Those connections need to be enclosed and yes I recommend you get a professional involved.

WoW, I was actually going to leave them exposed in the ceiling! I will get some "wago junction boxs". Unfortunately school blazers etc take priority & I stupidly did not take a pic of the wiring b4 I started, so I do not know how to wire the old lights back. Fortunately, I can separately disconnect the hallway lights from the fuse box. Thanks westward from stopping me from potentially burning our home down. A torch it is then, Is the wiring wrong?

Yes I can see what you have done wrong.

No but it isn't overly dangerous at the moment.

whereabouts in England are you?

There are forum member all over the country that could pay a site visit to sort this for very minimal fee.... Beer, ice cream or cheesecake are the usual forms of currency when there's not much driving involved.

(first half of postcode will suffice)
