Discuss Where to post appliance problems? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

If you mean pat testing there is a sub forum with the inspection and testing section

Whats up with it?

I've got a larder fridge (tall) and the collector tray above the condensor isn't evaporating. My knowledge on fridges is very limited. Have checked the obvious, door seals, contents of fridge etc. The fridge is operating as normal, but the collector tray is overflowing... Any ideas?

thanks in advance

Billy

Just a suggestion IMHO.

If its the drip channel below the evaporator plate inside the fridge there may be a small drain hole in it. A pipe or tube is connected to this which leads out through the back of the fridge and down to a molded tray on top of the compressor. The heat from the compressor evaporates any collected condensate in the tray that drips from the evaporator plate during defrost. The small tube may be blocked with gunge and mould that's built up over time.

Try using a pipe cleaner or something similar (flexible) to clear the drain hole and drain pipe/tube.

used to work on white goods many years ago and it used to be a common problem on fridges.

If the tray is overflowing then there's probably more condensation being produced than is being evaporated. Possible causes in order of likelyhood;

1 Door seal broken, damaged or partly missing.

2 Door misaligned, possibly warped, twisted or due to hinge deterioration.

3 Door not closing fully possibly hinge damage, incorrectly positioned internal shelving or produce, maybe fridge not correctly leveled.

4 Condensation tray not in correct position and not getting full heat from compressor or discharge piping.

5 Refrigeration problem such as short of gas causing freezing up and excessive ice build-up.

6 Condenser fan not running (if there is one).

7 Extreme ambient humidity.
