Why common yacht AC electrical system use dual circuit braker?
I want technical explanation since I allready heard it is safety precaution, because they do.... and answers like that with no techical background.

perhaps its because there is a possibility that the yatch could be used in Europe where double pole breakers in installations are part of there regs. (same goes with touring caravan installations)

or perhaps its because of the possibility of the installation being able to be connected to many different types of electrical supply (e.g generator, supplies with different earthing characteristics etc) and that upon a fault, its safer to isolate both live conductors to decrease the chance of a potential existing where it shouldn't. Due to floating neutral voltages etc.

I am, however only guessing.

Probably for several reasons but the one noone else has mentioned is galvanic protection. When yr moored up in your steel tub sucking juice out of the mains and matey next door is doing likewise in his aluminium racing snake you're each playing the role of cathode and anode respectively. Even if you dump out your mains breaker on the live pole you're still part of the circuit via the neutral and still going to rot like an old peach... given enough time.

Also euro plugs can be inserted both ways round so line and neutral could easily be reversed, if a single pole switch is operated on board and it is the neutral that has been turned off the appliance will still have live running through it.
