Hi all, im looking at putting RGB LED strips down both sides of my stairway and would like a PIR at either end of the stairway with the possibility of a manual override. electrics are not my strong point but i know the basics. could someone look over the rough diagram below and tell me if this would be ok. the manual override would be controlled by a set of RF remote plugs as the mains socket will be under the stairs.

Hi.

Functionally, I can see where you're going with this. However, it might be a good idea to get an electrician involved, if only to ensure your safety.

Whatever you do, don't supply your lighting via two separate 13A plugs. If someone (say a child) unplugs one and picks it up when live, there's a fair chance that it'll kill them.

if this is the case would it be better to install the plugs and PIRs after the transformer so its only the 12v?

supply into both PIRs. parallel up the output terminals of the PIRs and feed to LEDs. forget the manual override, it's pointless.

No, it won't work.

If you must have a wireless override, it should be hard wired in, in parallel with the PIRs. Why not just have an ordinary light switch if you really need an override?

its just that all of the other lights in the house are on remotes so just wanted to add it on, the socket for this is buried in the bottom of the stair cupboard so its handy to not have to get in there when we have guests or a party. in all fairness its probably just me being too lazy so i will just chop the cables in and put a light switch in.

might need a bit of 3 core/E

Yeah I bought a roll of 2.5mm twin e from toolstation yesterday for some downlights due to be fitted.

can anyone recommend a cheap down light supplier? So far found Lyon lighting to be the cheapest excluding bulbs.
