Polarity Test - Extension Lead (surge protection) - Failed

All new and visual check is fine... but it is a sealed unit so can't even remove the back to check visually that way either.

Polarity Test - Extension Lead (surge protection) - Failed

MFT... I take it a Multifunction Tester? So I suppose just you an MFT and do a continuity test on the earth to earth pin / live to live pin and neutral to neutral pin?

Polarity Test - Extension Lead (surge protection) - Failed

It's a Metrel Omega PA Tester. I use a 250v test instead of 500v as 500v will fail the test. The fail I have is for the last test which is Polarity.

Polarity Test - Extension Lead (surge protection) - Failed

Hi, I thought this might be the reason regarding the slight current between Live and Neutral (it states on the PA Tester L and N Shorted). But I would have thought that during the Polarity test there is no power going through the extension? As am I right in thinking that Surge Protected...

Polarity Test - Extension Lead (surge protection) - Failed

Hi all, This has got me stumped as it's the first time in 8 years this has happened. I undertook a 250v test on a brand new recently purchased Surge Protection extension lead - all is well but on each of the 6 sockets it failed the Polarity Test. Tested the IEC Lead and all was fine so not that...

    Emergency lighting question

Hi, Unusual set up really. Each above-door luminaire has it's own separate key test switch and each bank of office ceiling lights has it's own key test switch for the EL system. It is the above door luminaire key test switch that has the key pad system linked to it - I feel the contractor has...

    Emergency lighting question

So this is not really clear... Only thing it state regarding "...any other electrical equipment that could cause a hazard" - but even that in my case is only a keypad system... and one can operate it manually to get out the premises. I did read somewhere that "no other electrical system is to be...

    Emergency lighting question

But what i need to know is if this is right or wrong. I mean there is a mains light switch there too - so why not power the keypad from that instead of the keytest switch? I feel they have wired the keypad between the keytest switch and the emergency light instead of before the keytest switch...

    Emergency lighting question

Hi The emergency lighting was there before the keypad system... The EL is an LED panel fitted about a year ago... all is well when operating normally and on EL mode but just feel it ought not have other systems wired up to it.

    Emergency lighting question

Hi The door can be opened up manually from the inside (unfortunately the door opens inwards to get out - not final door to building) so this is not the issue. The issue is nobody can enter the office during a test as the keypad is off and no other way of getting into the office unless banging on...

    Emergency lighting question

Just dropping in on this. We have had a contractor fit electronic keypad entry systems to the doors of our office (as we are in a communal building) and need clarification on the wiring of said keypad. When I operate the Key Test Switch to check the Emergency Lighting the keypads power is lost...

Testing with no exposed metal parts...

I do understand this - but as with all things then i would question why these manufacturers and designers of equipment like this are allowed to do so if they are not up to scratch to allow for user ease of use - that said all PA Testing should be done by qualified electricians...in my honest...

Testing with no exposed metal parts...

Just saw Eodneil's post... Yes this is what I do but as close to a part that gets touched or used (IE a button) by the user...

Testing with no exposed metal parts...

Thanks for your response... I have been on the PA Testing course and passed both the testing and management parts, but there were some things they did not tell you and they seem vague. The Metrel Omega PAT machine asks you to connect the wander lead (which is a clamp and not probe) to the...
