UK Landlord Trying to Deduct Deposit for Unnecessary Electrician Test.

The first thing you do when you move in to a rented property should be to take detailed, time stamped, pictures of everything. Check through the inventory and check in report thoroughly and make sure any inaccuracies are fixed. Then at the end of the tenancy return the property exactly as it...

EICR - Help on my Request for Electrical Safety Alternatives and Quotes

No it isn't, it is a spur the same as if it is taken from any other point on the ring. Neither, it would be a fault which needs to be repaired.

EICR - Help on my Request for Electrical Safety Alternatives and Quotes

That post was a reply to your statement that in your opinion a spur from the MCB is not a spur. You appeared to be implying that in your opinion a spur cannot be taken from the MCB of a ring circuit. I was replying to that saying that an EICR should be carried out to BS7671 and not to your opinion.

EICR - Help on my Request for Electrical Safety Alternatives and Quotes

A report carried out by someone who can't tell the difference between a contactor and a switch, I doubt they've taken the time to establish how many sockets are on the spur. And even if there are multiple sockets on that cable it would be a spur on a spur, not a radial circuit. It could be...

    UK Earth bonding to Water

Earlier you said you agreed £150 to carry out an EICR but now you are saying you agreed £150 for 4-5 hours labour? Which is it? A key question when this sort of thing comes up is to ask what you would be expecting to pay if it has taken 7 hours? Would you be expecting him to honour the original...

DBs don't have a fire resistant construction, the room it is installed in should probably be fire sealed though. Consumer units in a domestic installation need to be manufactured from non-combustible materials. They do not have to form any kind of fire proof enclosure.

So the mandatory 5 yearly EICR for a rented property is not yet due. So they are claiming this purely as a means of checking that the unauthorised work you did is compliant. This is over the top of it is just the moving of 2 light fittings that needs to be checked. I also suspect they have seen...

Your tenancy agreement will include a clause stating that you are not allowed to make such an alteration without the landlords permission. However I don't think it is reasonable to expect you to pay for an EICR in response to this, they could probably reasonably deduct the cost of having the...

Did you get permission in writing to swap the lights over before you did it? Is the EICR being carried out because you moved the lights or is it being carried out because it is due anyway?

If you received a quote for £150 and agreed to proceed based on that quote then yes of course he is asking for £150 because that is the agreed price. If you feel the work has not been completed to your satisfaction then you need to discuss that with him and get it resolved before paying the...

They definitely can't be reversed. Certainly not the acti9 range anyway, Schneider have stayed true to the Merlin Gerin tradition of making excellent protective devices, good DBs and terrible lids/doors.

EICR - Help on my Request for Electrical Safety Alternatives and Quotes

Yes and that branch can be connected anywhere in the circuit. A spur can be connected to any part of a ring circuit, either at a point , a joint box in the cable or at the OCPD.
